Kerry (Ciarraí in Gaelic) got its name from Ciar, son of Fergus Mac Roy, by Méabh or Méav, who was the celebrated Queen of Connaught, Ireland. In the 1st century, Ciar received a large territory in Munster and named it Ciar Rioghact (Ciar's Kingdom), which was anglicised to Kerry."
